COMMUNITY GUIDELINES
Community Guidelines
Last updated: October 9, 2026 · Version 2026-10-09
Key points
DianDian is a place to make new friends. Each group is usually 4–6 people meeting for the first time. DianDian doesn't send staff or a host to events. The icebreakers on the website and in the app get the conversation going. That means how each person treats the others is what makes an event feel safe and comfortable.
Where these guidelines apply: everything you do on DianDian, including:
- signing up, your profile and booking;
- the event itself, including any plans afterwards and the journey home;
- the event chat and everything else on the website and in the app;
- any contact, before or after an event and on or off DianDian, with people you met through us.
- How they apply: these guidelines form part of our Terms of Service. We handle breaches under section 16 and Section 10 of the Terms of Service.
- Our role: DianDian doesn't send anyone to events. We have no obligation to screen in advance, or to monitor, participants' profiles, chats or in-person conduct. These guidelines set out what we expect of everyone, but we can't guarantee that everyone will follow them. Your own judgment about your safety always comes first (see section 11).
1. Respect and kindness
- Everyone is meeting for the first time, so be patient with each other. Listen, give everyone a chance to talk, and don't dominate the conversation.
- Don't mock, belittle or humiliate anyone, including about their accent, language skills, appearance, job or income.
- Respect different views. Disagree if you like, but don't argue or attack.
- Be respectful to the venue and its staff, and follow the venue's rules.
2. Respect boundaries
Assume anyone can say no at any time:
- skip any question you'd rather not answer;
- say so if you don't want to swap contacts;
- head home whenever you like.
- Don't press people about private matters, such as their income, immigration or visa status, relationships, family, religion, politics or health. If someone shares something personal, don't pass it on.
- No physical contact without consent. Ask before taking photos or suggesting plans after the event.
- If someone doesn't respond, stop.
3. Making friends, not finding a partner
- DianDian is for making new friends. It isn't a service for finding a partner. The same goes for events for people who are single: you may talk about how you see relationships and getting along, but the aim is still to make friends.
- Don't treat an event as a one-on-one. Include everyone in your group, rather than focusing on one person.
- If someone doesn't return your interest, stop. Once someone says no, don't ask again and don't contact them again.
- Don't keep messaging, pursue anyone, or use gifts to put pressure on someone, during the event, in the chat or afterwards. Don't try to find out where someone lives or works.
4. Zero tolerance
If we confirm any of the following, we may close the account permanently and immediately, without warning, and report it to the police where appropriate:
- physical violence, sexual assault, or any sexual contact without consent;
- sexual harassment, including sexual comments, jokes or gestures, and sending explicit images or messages;
- tampering with someone's food or drink, or taking advantage of someone who clearly can't make their own decisions, for example because they are intoxicated;
- threats, intimidation or stalking, including looking up or tracking down someone's home or workplace, or continuing to contact someone after they've said no;
- theft, robbery, or deliberately damaging someone's property;
- fraud or scams, including borrowing money without repaying it, asking for transfers, fake investments, romance scams, and impersonating a person or organization;
- sharing intimate images or videos of someone without their consent;
- hate speech, and threats or insults targeting any of the characteristics listed in section 5;
- any sexual exploitation of, or inappropriate conduct involving, a minor (see section 14);
- carrying a weapon, or using, distributing or selling illegal drugs;
- signing up again after an account has been closed, or attending an event using someone else's account.
5. No discrimination
Don't discriminate against, exclude or mock anyone because of:
- race, colour, ancestry, place of origin, ethnicity or nationality;
- accent or language;
- religion;
- sex, sexual orientation, or gender identity or expression;
- age, or marital or family status;
- physical or mental disability;
- appearance.
- Our community comes from many countries and regions, so respect each other's backgrounds.
- Some events have entry conditions, such as events for women or events for people who are single. The event page sets them out (see Section 3.5 of the Terms of Service). They are part of how those events are designed, and they don't change your duty to respect everyone who takes part.
6. No selling, no recruiting, no pyramid schemes
- Don't use events, the event chat or people you meet through DianDian to sell products or services. That includes insurance, loans, investments, cryptocurrency, real estate, immigration or international-study agencies, resale and social-commerce businesses.
- Don't recruit people into paid groups or courses, or into any pyramid scheme or multi-level marketing.
- Don't proselytize or recruit people into religious or political activities.
- Don't ask other participants to lend you money, send you payments or "invest together".
- Don't collect other participants' contact details for commercial purposes, or add them to marketing groups.
- Don't use DianDian events to organize your own paid events or recruit customers.
7. Swapping contact details
- Ask before asking for someone's contact details. If they say no or don't respond, don't ask again.
- Don't keep asking for contact details in the chat. Without the person's consent, don't pass their contact details on or add them to a group chat.
- The event chat is deleted when it closes. If you'd both like to stay in touch, swap contacts before then.
8. Photos, recording and privacy
- Ask the people present before taking photos or video. If anyone else is in a shot, get their consent before you post it, and delete it if they ask.
- No secret photos, no audio recording and no livestreaming.
Don't post any of the following about the people in your group on Xiaohongshu, WeChat, Instagram or anywhere else:
- their names, photos or contact details;
- screenshots of the chat;
- anything personal they told you.
- Follow the venue's rules on photography.
- You remain free to review DianDian's events and services, including online. This section protects other participants' privacy; it doesn't limit what you say about DianDian.
9. Drinking
- DianDian doesn't provide or sell alcohol. Some venues serve alcohol under their own licence. Whether you order any, and how much, is up to you, and you pay the venue directly.
- The legal drinking age in British Columbia is 19.
Whether and how much to drink is everyone's own choice:
- don't push drinks on anyone;
- don't make anyone feel they're being rude by saying no;
- no drinking games.
Drink in moderation and take responsibility for your own state. If you're intoxicated, or your drinking affects others:
- the venue may stop serving you or ask you to leave;
- we may pause your future bookings, and that event's fee won't be refunded.
- Don't come to an event intoxicated or under the influence of drugs, especially an outdoor or physical event.
- Never drink and drive or cycle. Plan your way home in advance.
- If someone in your group is clearly intoxicated and needs help, ask the venue staff. If anyone is in danger, call 911.
10. Showing up, keeping your word, paying your share
- Your spot is being kept for you, and your group is expecting you. Please be on time. If you're running late, say so in the event chat.
If you can't make it, deal with it as early as you can on the website or in the app:
- more than 48 hours before the start, you can cancel for a refund or switch dates;
- between 48 and 24 hours before the start, you can only switch dates, with no refund;
- within 24 hours of the start, you can neither cancel nor switch dates.
Section 6 of the Terms of Service and the booking confirmation page govern.
- If you repeatedly cancel late or don't show up, we may pause your ability to book.
Each spot belongs to one person:
- don't bring anyone who hasn't booked;
- don't pass your spot to someone else;
- everyone who attends must book with their own account and accept our terms;
- only people aged 19 or older can take part.
- Everyone pays the venue for their own food and drinks on the day. If you order it, pay for it: don't walk out on the bill. If you're sharing costs, agree on it first and split it fairly.
11. Staying safe in person
- DianDian doesn't run background checks and doesn't verify the information participants give us. Use the same basic caution you would with anyone you've just met.
- Events take place in public places. If you meet up afterwards, choose a public place too, and tell a friend where you're going, who you're with and when you expect to be home. Meeting privately after an event isn't a DianDian event (see Section 2.7 of the Terms of Service).
- Arrange your own way there and back. Don't get into a stranger's car, and don't let someone you've just met take you to your door. DianDian doesn't arrange rides or carpools.
- Don't give your home address, ID, banking details or passwords to people you've just met. Don't lend money or send payments to them.
- Keep an eye on your drink and belongings. Don't finish a drink you've left unattended.
- If you feel uncomfortable, you can leave at any time, without giving a reason.
- In an emergency, call 911 first, then contact us.
12. Outdoor events: safety requirements
DianDian may organize light outdoor activities, such as walks and easy runs, in public places. Even when everyone is careful, these activities can cause serious injury or death. These requirements form part of our Terms of Service, and you must follow them when you take part in an outdoor event. Before you book, read that event's page and its risk information. The full risk information is in Section 7.4 of the Terms of Service.
- Go at your own pace. These are relaxed social activities, not training sessions or races. Pace and distance are approximate. Set your own pace, and slow down, stop or leave whenever you need to.
- Check your own fitness before you take part. See a doctor first if you have a heart condition, high blood pressure, asthma or diabetes, are pregnant, have recently been injured or had surgery, or aren't sure whether exercise is right for you. The PAR-Q+ questionnaire, widely used in Canada, can help. We don't collect or review your health information.
- Stop if you feel unwell. If you have chest pain or tightness, dizziness, trouble breathing or feel unwell in any other way, stop right away and tell someone nearby. If it's serious, call 911.
Wear and bring the right things:
- suitable shoes and clothing;
- water, sun protection and rain gear;
- bright or reflective clothing when light is low;
- a charged phone, any medication you may need, and ID or an emergency contact.
- Check the weather and air quality before you leave, for example BC's Air Quality Health Index (AQHI), especially in wildfire season. We may change or cancel an event because of weather or air quality. If you think it's unsafe, don't start; if you've already started, leave right away.
Follow traffic laws and park rules:
- use sidewalks, and cross with the signals;
- keep right on shared paths and yield to cyclists;
- keep at least one ear free of earbuds.
- Stay with the group where you can. If you leave early, say so in the event chat. Anything after you leave isn't part of the event.
Watch your surroundings:
- wet or uneven ground, leaves, roots and steps;
- wildlife such as coyotes (keep your distance and never feed them);
- dogs.
- Don't take part after drinking or after taking anything that affects your judgment.
- DianDian doesn't send anyone to the event: no leader, coach, first aider or security, and no first-aid kit or defibrillator (AED). The route is a suggestion. DianDian doesn't own or manage parks or other public spaces.
- At special events such as craft workshops, follow the studio's and instructor's safety instructions, and use tools properly.
13. Event chat
- Each group has its own event chat, for practical messages about the event, such as meeting up, running late or finding where everyone is sitting.
Everything in these guidelines applies in the chat. Don't use it to:
- harass anyone;
- post explicit, violent or discriminatory content;
- post ads, sales pitches or suspicious links;
- spam.
- Don't share screenshots of other people's messages, except to report something to us or the police.
- Don't post anyone else's contact details or private information in the chat.
- The chat closes after the event and its messages are deleted. Any copy kept as evidence for a report is the only exception (see section 7 of our Privacy Policy).
- The chat isn't a way to get help. In an emergency, call 911.
14. Minors and child safety
- Only people aged 19 or older can sign up or attend. Don't bring a minor to an event.
- We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation in any form. If we find such content or conduct, we will close the account immediately and report it to the police and to Cybertip.ca (the Canadian Centre for Child Protection), as the law requires.
- If you come across anything like this, report it directly to the police or Cybertip.ca, and let us know.
15. Reporting and blocking
How to report:
- on the event page, open "Report / block" on the "Who you're meeting" card, select the people concerned (you can select more than one) and tell us what happened;
- or email diandian.event@gmail.com;
- you can also report things that happened after an event, or harassment off DianDian.
Blocking:
- when you report someone, you can also tick "Block";
- once you block someone, we won't put the two of you in the same group again. You may still book the same event and be placed in different groups, or be at the same venue;
- you won't see their messages in the event chat. They aren't notified;
- if you block someone after groups have been set, the system doesn't move anyone automatically. If you don't want to attend together, email us, or cancel or switch dates under Section 6 of the Terms of Service;
- you can unblock people at any time under Account → Blocked people. To remove a block we set up for you, email us.
What we do:
- a person will review your report as soon as reasonably possible. Where needed, we may contact the people involved, review the relevant event chat before it closes, and preserve evidence;
- we won't tell the person reported who made the report, unless the law requires it or it's necessary to protect someone's safety.
- No guaranteed outcome. Reporting and blocking are tools that help us keep events safe. We don't guarantee any particular outcome or timeframe, or that someone you've blocked or reported won't be at the same venue, at the same time, or anywhere else.
- Emergencies: if anyone is in danger, call 911 first. DianDian is not an emergency service.
- False or malicious reports are themselves a breach of these guidelines.
16. Enforcement
We decide what to do based on how serious the breach is, whether it has happened before, its effect on others and the evidence we have. We may do any one or more of the following:
- remind or warn you;
- cancel your bookings;
- pause your ability to book;
- suspend or permanently close your account;
- record a block so that the people involved aren't placed together again;
- refer suspected crimes to the police.
- For the zero-tolerance conduct in section 4, we may close an account permanently without warning.
- While we investigate, we may suspend an account or cancel bookings to protect others. If we cancel a booking while we investigate and don't confirm a breach, we'll give you a full refund.
- If a booking is cancelled, or an account suspended or closed, because of a breach, fees already paid are not refunded. If you have a subscription, we will cancel its auto-renewal: the current period is not refunded, and you won't be charged again. This applies except where the law requires otherwise.
While an account is suspended or closed:
- you can't sign in or book;
- you can't sign up again with the same email or a new account;
- we keep the email address and the date and reason for closure (see section 13.4 of our Privacy Policy).
Notice and appeals:
- if we suspend or close your account, or cancel a booking because of a breach, we'll email you the reason and how to appeal;
- you may appeal within 7 days of receiving our notice, by emailing diandian.event@gmail.com with your reasons and any supporting information;
- a person will review the decision again and reply, and that review is our final decision;
- this doesn't affect any other rights you have under the law.
- A breach may also break the law. We cooperate with investigations by the police and other authorities.
17. Updates
- We update these guidelines as our community grows. Each version has a version number (shared with our Terms of Service and Privacy Policy) and an effective date, and every version is kept at its own fixed link.
- Changes to these guidelines follow Section 16 of the Terms of Service: we'll give you at least 30 and no more than 60 days' notice of any change that affects your rights or obligations, and ask you to accept the new version before you next log in or book. If an urgent safety issue comes up, we'll first take the steps we need under Sections 5.4 and 10.4 of the Terms of Service (for example, cancelling bookings with a refund) and start the change process under Section 16 at the same time.
- For changes that don't affect your rights or obligations, such as fixing typos or updating menu paths, we'll update the version and date directly.
- The official versions of these guidelines are in Simplified Chinese, Traditional Chinese and English, and the three versions have the same meaning. Korean and Japanese translations are also provided for reference only; if a translation differs from the English version, the English version prevails. The version in the language you used when you accepted them is the one that applies to you; if you accepted them in Korean or Japanese, the English version applies.
